WAKELING...
Mary Ann WAKELING 'Little Nan'
I know little about Mary Ann,my
Great Grandmother, only brief stories from my Mother and Aunt.
Mary Ann was born 1868, Hedley in
Hampshire, to Daniel WAKELING and Harriet BURROWS.
She had a child, Trixie , in 1889,
and married Reuben BELCHER in 1893, Greenwich. Trixie had
the name BELCHER, but we don't really know if she was Reubens
child, or not. Mary Ann and Reuben had 5 children, John Arthur,
Albert (my Grandfther), Hector and Sidney
Daniel WAKELING
Daniel, my Great Great Grandfather,
was born in Headley,Hampshire, to Giles WAKELING and Frances,
in 1829. He married Harriet BURROWS in Headley, Hampshire
in 1849. Apart from Daniel, they had another 6 children. Anna,
Caroline, William, Robert and Mary Ann
Tracing the Family at this point proves
pretty difficult, especially as the Family kept the names
the same right through the generations. I had contact from
a WAKELING researcher who gave me the whole History, including
distant relations, and this proved a godsend
Giles WAKELING, my Great Great Great
Grandfather. Giles was born to Giles WAKELING and Mary REYNOLDS
in Headley, Hampshire, 1786. He married Frances and they had
7 children. Giles,Sarah, Jane, Mary Ann, Agnes,James and Francis.
Giles WAKELING, Great,Great,Great,Great
Grandfather, was born 1751, Headley,Hampshire
to Giles WAKLING and Ann HOPWOOD. He married Mary REYNOLDS
in Saffron Waldon, Essex , July 1773 . apart from Giles, this
couple had another 8 children. A previous Giles had died in
the year of his birth , 1776. The siblings were, Ann, Sarah(
a previous Sarah died) , William, Mary, Rebecca, Jane (died),
Edward(died), Jane, Edward. It was quite common to name a
child after a dead sibling in those days
